If You Want to Sing Out

If You Want to Sing Out
by Cat Stevens (Yusuf Islam)

Well, if you want to sing out, sing out
And if you want to be free, be free
’cause there’s a million things to be
You know that there are

And if you want to be high, be high
And if you want to be low, be low
’cause there’s a million ways to go
You know that there are

Chorus:
You know it’s up to you
Anything you can do
And if you can find a new way
You can do it today
You can make it all true
And you can make it undo
You see ah ah ah
Its easy ah ah ah
You only need to know

And if you want to be heard, be heard
And if you want to be you, be you
’cause there’s a million things to do
You know that there are

Well if you want to say yes, say yes
And if you want to say no, say no
’cause there’s a million ways to go
You know that there are

Chorus:
You know it’s up to you
Anything you can do
And if you find a new way
You can do it today
You can make it all true
And you can make it undo
You see ah ah ah
Its easy ah ah ah
You only need to know

Well, if you want to sing out, sing out
And if you want to be free, be free
’cause there’s a million things to be

And if you want to be high, be high
And if you want to be low, be low
’cause there’s a million ways to go
You know that there are
You know that there are
You know that there are
You know that there are
You know that there are
You know that there are

Father and Son

Father and Son
by Cat Stevens (Yusuf Islam)

Father
It’s not time to make a change,
Just relax, take it easy.
You’re still young, that’s your fault,
There’s so much you have to know.
Find a girl, settle down,
If you want you can marry.
Look at me, I am old, but I’m happy.

I was once like you are now, and I know that it’s not easy,
To be calm when you’ve found something going on.
But take your time, think a lot,
Why, think of everything you’ve got.
For you will still be here tomorrow, but your dreams may not.

Son
How can I try to explain, when I do he turns away again.
It’s always been the same, same old story.
From the moment I could talk I was ordered to listen.
Now there’s a way and I know that I have to go away.
I know I have to go.

Father
It’s not time to make a change,
Just sit down, take it slowly.
You’re still young, that’s your fault,
There’s so much you have to go through.
Find a girl, settle down,
If you want you can marry.
Look at me, I am old, but I’m happy.

Son
All the times that I cried, keeping all the things I knew inside,
It’s hard, but it’s harder to ignore it.
If they were right, I’d agree, but it’s them They know not me.
Now there’s a way and I know that I have to go away.
I know I have to go.

This song made me smile (and even cry a bit after listening to it the fourth time in a row this morning, lol). Another beautiful creation by Cat Stevens. This is not the first time I heard the song, of course. But it is only now that I actually get its story. Hindi ko na-gets sa radio dati na sagutan pala siya between father and son! Hindi ko din kasi alam ang title nito dati. :P The lyrics and melody is just beautiful.

I was bewildered for a moment because some websites say that the song was written by Yusuf Islam, while others say it was by Cat Stevens. Apparently, Yusuf Islam is Cat Stevens! He converted to Islam in 1977 and changed his name in 1978. :) I like the video above performed by Yusuf Islam in 2007 than the one performed by Cat Stevens in 1971. His voice became warmer when he grew old. Very, very nice. :)

How Can I Tell You

How Can I Tell You
by Cat Stevens

How can I tell you that I love you, I love you
But I can’t think of right words to say
I long to tell you that I’m always thinking of you
I’m always thinking of you, but my words
Just blow away, just blow away
It always ends up to one thing, honey
And I can’t think of right words to say

Wherever I am girl, I’m always walking with you
I’m always walking with you, but I look and you’re not there
Whoever I’m with, I’m always, always talking to you
I’m always talking to you, and I’m sad that
You can’t hear, sad that you can’t hear

It always ends up to one thing, honey,
When I look and you’re not there
I need to know you, need to feel my arms around you
Feel my arms around you, like a sea around a shore

And — each night and day I pray, in hope
That I might find you, in hope that I might
Find you, because heart’s can do no more
It always ends up to one thing honey, still I kneel upon the floor

How can I tell you that I love you, I love you
But I can’t think of right words to say
I long to tell you that I’m always thinking of you
I’m always thinking of you, but my words
Just blow away, just blow away
It always ends up to one thing, honey
And I can’t think of right words to say…

Morning Has Broken

Morning Has Broken
by Cat Stevens

Morning has broken, like the first morning.
Blackbird has spoken, like the first bird.
Praise for the singing, praise for the morning,
Praise for them springing fresh from the Word.

Sweet the rain’s new fall, sunlight from heaven.
Like the first dew fall, on the first grass.
Praise for the sweetness of the wet garden,
Sprung in completeness where His feet pass.

Mine is the sunlight, mine is the morning.
Born of the one light Eden saw play.
Praise with elation, praise every morning;
God’s recreation of the new day.

Morning has broken, like the first morning.
Blackbird has spoken, like the first bird.
Praise for the singing, praise for the morning,
Praise for them springing fresh from the Word.

It rained early this morning, but it stopped by the time the sun had risen. I looked out of my window and opened the screen to give me an unobstructed view of the now wet garden. The leaves were sparkling as the rays of the sun hit the water droplets on them. The birds were singing happily. The air smelled fresh. The rays of the sun grew brighter and brighter as if it were showcasing the beauty of the garden.

I asked myself: How can I feel sadness when I am surrounded with such beauty and wonder? I must be doing something terribly wrong. Obviously.

Here we go again. Another one of life’s practice sessions. On with the day! :)
